Prevalence, capsular types, antimicrobial resistance and risk factors associated with pneumococcal carriage among children after long-term 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine use in Brazil
CONCLUSIONS: Long-term universal childhood use of PCV10 has nearly eliminated carriage with PCV10 serotypes, but the high frequency of MDR isolates, especially associated with serotype 6C/D, remains a concern. Replacing PCV10 with PCV13 should reduce the proportion of ERY-R isolates and PNSP by at least 14% and 18%, respectively.PMID:37061371 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.04.023

Microbiological and clinical characteristics of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 3 infection and risk factors for severe outcome: A multicenter observational study
CONCLUSIONS: Serotype 3 infection showed a high mortality rate, especially in patients with older ages and comorbidities. Although the incidence rates decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic, serotype 3 remained as an important cause of infection after the implementation of PCV13. Developing a more effective vaccine against serotype 3 and monitoring the antimicrobial-resistant sequence types are necessary.PMID:36774315 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2023.01.013

Carriage prevalence, serotype distribution, antimicrobial resistance, pspA typing and pilus islets of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from adults living in a Brazilian urban slum
CONCLUSION: We detected a low frequency of pneumococcal carriage among the adult population, but a high diversity of serotypes. Frequencies of PNSP and NT isolates resistant to antimicrobial agents are concerning.PMID:36690557 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.01.034

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Trends of < em > Streptococcus pneumoniae < /em > by Age Groups Over Recent 10 Years in a Single Hospital in South Korea
CONCLUSION: Erythromycin and ceftriaxone resistance rates and the MDR rate of S. pneumoniae significantly increased during the recent 10 years; the trends in individual antimicrobial resistance rates significantly differed between the age groups. This study indicates the need for caution when using ceftriaxone as an empirical antimicrobial against pneumococcal infections.PMID:33779084 | DOI:10.3349/ymj.2021.62.4.306
